Job Description

Job Summary:

The Netsmart Engineering Director is responsible for productivity and delivery of web-based development programs for assigned products. They hire, develop and coach associates on an ongoing basis. The Engineering Director serves as the Netsmart technical leader on multiple, significant Netsmart modules or products. They are recognized as a technology and solution visionary within the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a fully high-functioning and accountable engineering team.
  • Strategize for and set business operational objectives, business requirements, product roadmaps and related technical specifications. Oversee completion of department goals, strategies and budgets.
  • Interact with customers in the necessary product areas.
  • Effectively and routinely review reporting on operational metrics and status. Make plan changes as needed depending on metrics.
  • Identify need for and drive change in our engineering processes.
  • Oversee budget and accountability for assigned Engineering teams.
  • Document performance. Includes obtaining input from other resources. Take corrective action when needed.
  • Continuously improve skills/knowledge of programming languages, tools, department standards and development industry practices.
  • Understand and be able to apply broader industry knowledge for assigned product.
  • Drive improvements in internal processes. Monitor improvements for effectiveness.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry and department standards, company policy and procedures, and employment regulations

Qualifications:

Education

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or Computer Science or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Specialized Knowledge

  • Must be able to read, understand, and develop code for web-based programming. This may include Visual Basic, ASP, HTML, SQL and .Net languages.
  • Must understand general programming standards, operating systems, workflow cycles, development life cycle, and terminology.
  • Requires a general understanding of business operations, business terminology, and business communications.

Experience

  • 10+ years programming leadership experience building web based enterprise software products leveraging C#, ASP.NET, & SQL, or specialized training combined with experience.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to see the broader picture of impact of developed processes.
  • Must understand development industry standards and practices.
  • Must be able to demonstrate individual and team work effort in collaborative processes.
  • Understanding of Object Oriented Programming

Skills and Abilities

PC Skills

  • Microsoft Word - advanced level
  • Microsoft Excel - advanced level
  • Microsoft PowerPoint - intermediate level
  • Microsoft Outlook - advanced level
  • Microsoft Project - beginner level, preferred
  • Microsoft Exchange - beginner level, preferred

Technical Skills Preferred

  • ASP (Classic) - Familiar through reading and/or introductory-to-intermediate courses required, including reading and writing simple code and developing simple processes.
  • ASP.NET - Familiar through reading and/or introductory-to-intermediate courses preferred, including reading and writing simple code and developing simple processes.
  • Object-Oriented Programming - Knowledgeable of an object-oriented language (JAVA, Visual Basic, C#, F#). Has done project work using code. Has good working application/experience. Can apply principals to multi-process applications. Generally 1-2 years.
  • VB.NET - Familiar through reading and/or introductory-to-intermediate courses preferred, including reading and writing simple code and developing simple processes.
  • SQL - Familiar through reading and/or introductory-to-intermediate courses required, including reading and writing simple code and developing simple processes.
  • HTML - Familiar through reading and/or introductory-to-intermediate courses required, including reading and writing simple code and developing simple processes.
  • JAVA Script - Familiar through reading or introductory course preferred, including reading and writing simple code and developing simple processes.

Other Skills

  • Requires the interpersonal skills to interact and collaborate with wide variety of internal personnel. May interact with outside customer or mentor less experienced developers.
  • Requires the ability to work independently and self-initiate to develop, troubleshoot, meet department deadlines, and learn industry and products.
  • Requires the verbal skills to probe and ask questions to ensure understanding of requirements, participate in teams, and communicate technical issues to non-technical personnel.
  • Requires the ability to read and interpret technical documents and write a variety of business and technical documents.
  • Requires strong presentation skills, to every level of internal and external organization.

Travel

Up to 10% domestic travel may be expected for this position. This requirement may vary depending on location, and could be up to 25%.
