Mechanical Engineer II

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer II position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

Job Summary:

Either leads or participates with a team to develop designs for products. Requires independent interpretation of requirements. Utilizes design skills to perform tasks independently while consulting with more experienced members for challenging situations. As a member of the group with valuable experience it is expected that they will occasionally be called on by other members and departments for assistance in their field of expertise. Expected to perform tasks with minimal supervision and may provide assistance to lower level engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Serves as team leader or team member on a project. Will be required to develop and maintain project schedule. Will be responsible for maintaining project completion in line with the schedule.
  2. Will be responsible for assuring project is completed in compliance with ISO-9001 requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, documenting test results, conducting design reviews and coordinating with manufacturing.
  3. Confers with Sales, Marketing, Production and Quality to clarify or resolve problems. Creates test procedures for solving problems.
  4. Performs experiments to determine necessary engineering parameters. Discusses, analyzes, summarizes and publishes test results. Uses test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Evaluates test results for possible application to development of other uses.
  5. Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics. Performs product, component and system design.
  6. Coordinates activities with appropriate approval agencies to ensure compliance of new products with industry standards.
  7. Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.
  8. Confers with other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.
  9. Develops new methods and techniques for products requested by marketing.
  10. Resolves difficult problems or issues during product development with assistance from other personnel.
  11. Interacts with customers to understand product application and to provide solutions to their requirements and product problems.
  12. Assists or recommends procedures for the operation of new or existing processes with product development.
  13. Studies ASME, ANSI, MIL, AISI, IFI, NACE, API, AWS and NFPA standards and applies these standards to proposed designs. Is also responsible for learning and applying any new standard listed in a product specification.
  14. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshop and seminars, reviewing professional publications, networking and participating in professional societies.
  15. Adheres to the Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) policies and procedures related to NIST 800-171 and completes all required CUI Awareness training, which includes collection, processing/handling, transmission, storage, and general safeguarding practices.
  16. Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.

Performs related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance is required

Job Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline. Five years related post degree experience. Experience with ASME Section VIII and applicable military standards.

Preferred: PE (Registered Professional Engineer) Master's degree in a related technical field. Knowledge of CAD. Background in fluid flow, metallurgy, or stress analysis using finite element methods and a background with processes.
