Purpose:
Drs. Amanda Grimes, Joseph Lightner, Julia Crowley, Kathleen Spears, and Sharon White-Lewis are conducting a project to improve disaster preparedness for community dwelling older adults in Missouri. Supported by eight Kansas City organizations and with the support and funding of AmeriCorps we are seeking individuals interested in impacting their communities' emergency preparedness. It is very important to focus on the older adult population who may have access and functional needs which are increased during disasters. Also, and as important, the older adults are a source of resilience for our communities due to past lived experiences and utilization of these unique individuals during a disaster will strengthen our response during a difficult disaster.
AmeriCorps Member duties will include:
Members will be appointed for up to one year and receive a modest living stipend of $833.32 per month to cover basic expenses.
Members who successfully complete their term of service may be eligible for the Segals AmeriCorps Education Award Stipend of $3447.50. This stipend can cover a range of education expenses and is transferrable to child, stepchild, grandchild, step-grandchild, or foster-child if you are over 55 years of age at time of service.

This is a part-time (45% FTE) non-benefit eligible position . This position will average 18 hours per week for a total of over the duration of the appointment. Days of the week will be determined by the members and their community partners. Planning is recommended for two, eight-hour days (after training) per week.
This position may include occasional evenings or weekend days if needed by the community organizations. There may be national, state, or local service projects or events that will be necessary to attend and these will also count towards total hours.
Member will not be required to serve during holidays and time off.
20% of the time served can be training, with much of the training occurring virtually.

Evaluations of performance:
Member will have 2 required evaluations at 6 months and at end of service. This is a mutual exchange of information that informs the program's service delivery and helps the member complete the term of service successfully. The member will be required to provide bi-weekly timesheets, monthly data reports, and quarterly narrative reports. Support and help to complete these tasks will be frequent and available.
